With very good performances and the air of a winner, Panathinaikos secured on Friday 17/06 the qualification to the semifinals of the European Trophy women in table tennis.
On the opening day of the final trophy (European Trophy Grand Final), which takes place in Havirov, Czech Republic, he confirmed his role as the favorite and with two impressive victories secured the entrance to the top 4.
In the 1st group, where he is the leader, he defeated Long Eaton from England with 3-0 and SKST Bratislava from Slovakia also with 3-0 and whatever happens on Saturday morning, in the last match of the two groups, goes to the semifinals. In the first year of the new institution, the “greens” managed to equalize, in terms of the European Intercollegiate Cups, the records of the men’s team of Panathinaikos and the men’s team of Pera Athens. In 1974 Panathinaikos had played in the semifinals of the then European Cup Winners’ Cup and in 2001 the “Citizens” had reached the 4th group of the Champions Cup, which even then took place in parallel with the first years of the Champions League. In the European Trophy Grand Final, Panathinaikos plays on Saturday for the first place in the group against Bodestdorf, Austria (starting at 14:00 Greek time). Then he will passionately chase the final or the trophy in order to reach a great distinction and write a history for the Greek table tennis.
The Athenian team entered the final stage of the 3rd class of the European Cup when they dominated their group in the first phase, in Latvia. She had shown since then that she would be the protagonist and in the Czech Republic she is also supported by the Slovenian Ana Tofad. The European Union of Sport (ETTU) is delaying the publication of results by Xavirov and for information we get a lot of information from the Panathinaikos Amateur press releases:
The women’s division of Panathinaikos defeated the English Long Eaton 3-0 in the final phase of the Europe Trophy and laid the foundations for qualifying for the semifinals of the tournament. The “greens” presented themselves with great seriousness and with Lefteris Makras on the bench and left no room for reaction to their opponent.
Although Elsa Terpu was absent due to illness, they stood at a high level and prevailed with Toliou, Pergel and Tofant. Initially, the four-time Greek champion easily defeated Erin Green with a 3-0 set (11-8, 11-6 and 11-1). Then Sandra Pergel prevailed with 11-6, 11-6 and 11-7 of Milli Regow.
The work of Anna Tofant, who defeated Joan Green 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-2), seemed even easier.
In the evening, the Panathinaikos athletes achieved a great victory with 3-0 over Bratislava and put a safety valve in the case of qualifying for the semifinals of the tournament.
The “greens” were serious in the second match of the day and achieved two in two. Although the team is playing without Elsa Terpou due to illness, it managed to stand at a high level and won 3-0 with the same trio.
