Ryan Giggs is tried on suspicion of domestic violence (PA)

Ryan Giggs has announced that he will resign as Welsh manager.

The former Manchester United striker has been acquitted of three counts of domestic violence against his ex-partner and his sister, and the trial is due to start on August 8.

After 48 years in detention, he resigned from his managerial position in November 2020.

Robert Page took over from Giggs as Welsh caretaker coach and led the team to the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

“After much deliberation, we will soon step down as manager of the Wales national team,” Giggs said in a statement.

“It was an honor and a privilege to coach my country, but the Welsh FA, coaching staff and players were confident and clear, preparing for the tournament with no hesitation about the head coach’s role. It’s right to be there.” .

“I don’t want the country’s preparations for the World Cup to affect, destabilize or endanger the constant interest in this case. I was in charge of the team3. I was lucky to live an unforgettable moment of the year”.

The Welsh FA statement read: “The Football Association of Wales acknowledges a personal statement issued by Ryan Giggs on June 20, 2022.

FAW thanks Ryan Giggs for his role as coach of the Cymru men’s national team and for his decision to benefit Welsh football.

“The FAW and Cymru men’s national team focus is on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.”
