Emma Raducanu’s agent has criticized a British tennis star who said the US Open champion’s career was cut short due to her business activities.
The 19-year-old became popular 12 months ago during a spectacular run in the fourth round at Wimbledon, following her historic US Open victory and before becoming a superstar.
Raducanu is struggling to maintain these high standards, as progress is of course hampered by many frustrating injuries and lack of fitness.
At the same time, beyond the courts, Raducanu has amassed countless fortunes as the face of Evia, Tiffany, Nike and HSBC, and his career is steered by former tennis sensation agent Maria Sharapova.
Max Eisenbud, who spearheaded Liana’s commercial success in China, argues that British tennis favorites are totally focused on their sporting goals and not haunted by the wealth they are offered to raise.
“We would have been able to shoot for 50 days,” Eisenbood told The SportsDesk podcast. “I have never seen so many bettors or companies that wanted to do business with Emma after the US Open.
“It was a difficult year,” he admitted. “I think he had a lot of problems, which really hurt him. [catching] Covid and the off season weren’t good so he was catching up and playing.
But if there was no shooting date, I think everything would be the same.
“I know on the outside that everyone wants to see it all, but if he was stuck in a room all year and didn’t do anything, I think it’s the same thing.”
Meanwhile, Raducanu is on the way to recovering from his injury and will replace him at Wimbledon on Friday.
The 19-year-old was released two weeks after playing just seven times at Nottingham in the first season of the season.
Raducanu was not ready to return to Eastbourne at this week’s WTA tournament, but this week he is training at the All England Club and the PA news agency understands he is ready for the championship.
