Palmeiras has the most valuable football team in South America, closely followed by Flamengo.
Alviverde from São Paulo is, however, leagues away from Manchester City, a club whose sum of values of its players is the highest in the world of football.
The squad of the three-time champion of Libertadores and leader of the Brasileiro, recognized as the best Brazilian team today, is currently worth R$ 874.36 million (€ 160.35 million).
The survey is carried out and updated periodically by the German site Transfermarkt, which specializes in evaluating the price of footballers.
The player with the highest market value of the Palmeiras squad (R$ 120 million/€ 22 million) is midfielder Danilo, 22 years old, recently called up for friendlies of the Brazilian team.
After him come, tied (R$ 65.4 million/€ 12 million), forwards Dudu and Gabriel Veron and attacking midfielder Raphael Veiga.
Among the teams that are part of Conmebol (South American confederation), are Flamengo, River Plate, Atlético-MG and, amazingly, Bragantino, runner-up in the Copa Sul, in market value. -American in 2021.
The group of players from the Carioca team is worth, considering the main team, R$ 843.3 million (€ 155.2 million). The most expensive is striker Gabigol (R$ 141.8 million/€ 26 million).
Europe, the most financially wealthy continent, has no less than 95 clubs in the ranking of the 100 clubs with the most valued workforce. The five South American teams already mentioned are “intruders”.
Palmeiras is 62nd in the top 100; Flamengo, 66th; River Plate, 74th; Atlético-MG, 88th, and Bragantino, 97th.
In the top 10, five are English: Manchester City (1st), Liverpool (2nd), Chelsea (4th), Manchester United (7th) and Tottenham (10th).
The sum of the values of City’s athletes is R$ 5.04 billion (€ 924.8 million), almost six times the “players basket” of Palmeiras.
Attacking midfielder Phil Foden, 22, has the highest market value of the Manchester team who wears blue: R$491 million (€90 million).
At Liverpool, who is at the top is the Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah (same figure as the Englishman Foden); at Chelsea, the English attacking midfielder Mason Mount (R$409 million/€75 million); at Manchester United, the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes, attacking midfielder (R$ 463.5 million/€ 85 million); at Tottenham, striker Harry Kane (same number as Salah and compatriot Foden).
Above Foden, only three more valuable players are positioned, all young forwards.
They are Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, 23, from PSG (R$872.5.8 million/€160 million); Norwegian Erling Haaland, 21, ex-Borussia Dortmund, recently signed by Manchester City (R$818 million/€150 million); and Vinicius Junior, 21, from European champions Real Madrid (R$545.3 million/€100 million).
Neymar, 30, who holds the record in a football transaction, in the acquisition by PSG from Barcelona in 2017 (€ 222 million), is now worth “only” € 75 million (R$ 409 million).
It is pertinent to point out that this ranking by Transfermarkt, with the most valuable clubs based on the estimated price of each player, is done considering the absolute value.
The average calculation would be different, as each club has a different number of athletes in its professional squad.
In the case of Manchester City, for example, 22 players were considered in the survey. At Palmeiras, the number rose to 30.
Then the top 10 total and divided by confederation.
