Manchester United will make a second official offer to sign Frenkie de Jong after rejecting claims that Barcelona are seeking €86.86m for the Dutchman.
The Riga giant rejected United’s first offer to the Dutch. It was worth around £51 million in overtime.
Barcelona are happy with the sale of De John, but just three years ago they want to pay $6.565 million, denying the club’s claim that they are demanding $86.86 million from Spain.
United want the deal to reflect Barcelona’s desire to sell De John, so they aim to bring the deal closer to the original offer.
However, the Manchester Evening News says the new and improved offer is “inevitable” and United will present it in the coming days.
It is not yet known whether Barcelona will accept the offer, but the club will have to sell it before they can impose sanctions on newcomers such as Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
United still have no plans to sign this summer, with the club fully focused on De John negotiations.
When the Dutch arrive at the door, United point out that they will get the signings of Christian Eriksen and Ajaxwinger Anton.
