Lucas Torreira said he had “no chance” of staying at Arsenal in the final year of the contract.
Uruguayan footballers were impressed during their loan spell at Fiorentina last season, but the Italian club refused to buy Arsenal 15 15m (, 6 12.6m), which is part of the deal. ..
Torreira has said he wants to extend his stay at Fiorentina, but Arsenal are angry that the Serie A club have tried to cut the midfielder’s price.
Arsenal are trying to bolster their options in midfield until the end of the summer window, but say it has already been said that Torreira is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
When asked about the possibility of staying at Arsenal, Torreira told El Telégrafo:
They told me that there was no place from the beginning, so I don’t want to stay. My idea is to go to Italy or Spain because it is very painful and very expensive to adapt.
“I wanted to stay at Fiorentina, but it didn’t happen for a variety of reasons, so I’m looking for a new direction.
Asked about the possibility of a transfer to Boca Juniors, Torreira replied:
It was tough after what happened to my mum and I really wanted to go, but it was a really good season and I only had a year to go until my contract with Arsenal was up.
“The team that wants me has to buy mine for about 15 million euros, so I think it’s difficult, but I don’t lose hope. I have a lot of love for this club and play there one day.
