‘Penta brought hope that everything would get better’, says reader

by

On social media, there is a joke that only Hexa can unite Brazil again. A reinterpretation of Petkovic’s classic tweet: cheer up guys!

Even those who don’t like football tend to surrender to the World Cup season. With games that stop the country, sport is capable of making you smile and cry. In addition to concentrating an unbeatable meme production.

THE Sheet asked his readers what is the best memory of Brazil’s last World Cup title, which turns 20 this June 30, 2022.

The answers brought a lot of nostalgia and hope for better days.

I was 19 years old, studying Social Communication (Journalism) at Mackenzie. The events in the country, in the world and in life were very intense: elections in Brazil, the US war against Afghanistan, the discovery of so many subjects as each semester and each college subject passed, in addition to my personal development. Life wasn’t exactly easy: my father was undergoing cancer treatment, which included chemotherapy, and an uncertain financial situation, but there was hope that everything would work out. The Cup brought joy to the country through sport and a feeling that things could improve. In the crowd for the title of Brazil this year and the return of hope to the country.

The emotion of being a five-time champion and mother on the same day is for few.

On June 30, 2002 at 7:15 pm, after our Brazil was five-time champion, my first daughter was born. Her name is Letícia, which means joy. Today she turns 20 in good health, and with the best qualities possible. We are waiting for the hexa for this year and we will celebrate a lot!!!

Reader Tony Nyenhuis had everything to have a memorable experience during the 2002 final. He was in Petrópolis (RJ) in the midst of the traditional German party Bauernfest. Not knowing anyone, he watched the game on the hotel’s TV and went out with his camera (still film) to photograph the team’s victory.

I will never forget the thrilling green and yellow invasion of the typically Germanic party. I arrived at Palácio de Cristal and took few photos, unfortunately, even before downloading all of Petrópolis to celebrate our Penta at the top of their lungs. And what a party. Unforgettable. I think even the Germans there liked it. Tremendous coincidence.

On social media, memories were also of a time of joy. Users reported the parties, barbecue and drinking with friends. “The best football memory I have in my life!!!”, says Tiago Apolinario on LinkedIn.

The memory also brings good feelings for Leonardo Benutto, on Twitter: “I was 19 years old. I had just entered the faculty of chemical engineering. I went out to get drunk with my friends at Café Aurora at dawn and then we went to the house of a friend to watch the game”, he says.

“My best memory was seeing Cafu climb the pulpit to lift the cup. It was too beautiful”, says Cida Souza on Twitter.

And you, reader, what is your best memory? Leave it in the comments.
