Four-time Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Simone Biles and two-time world soccer champion Megan Rapinoe are among 17 personalities to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, the White House said Friday. 1).
The medal, awarded to those who have made “exemplary contributions” to the United States, global peace or other areas, will be awarded on July 7.
“These 17 Americans demonstrate the power of possibility and embody the soul of the nation: hard work, perseverance and faith,” the White House said in a statement.
Other honorees include Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and the late US Senator John McCain.
