The world title is in Greek hands. THE George Kamposos is the new world champion taking the belt from his hands, until today undefeated, Teofimo Lopes in New York with a stadium against him.
The Greek-Australian emerged victorious with a split decision with two of the three judges giving him the lead in the rounds and the belt. 115-112 and 115-111 was the score given by the two judges with the third giving a score 114-113 in favor of Lopez.
Campos’s promise to play “fire with fire” was evident from the beginning of the match. From the first round he was never afraid of his American opponent with one overhand who passed to Lopez showed his mood, throwing him on the canvas in the last seconds of the opening round. The Greek-Australian, although he lost the next rounds, increased his performance, with excellent combinations he passed several blows and took the next ones.
Kamposos found the strength and reacted to the last attempt of Lopez who took the 9th and 10th round. He managed to pass a blow and to tear the right eyebrow of the American, a point that tilted the last laps to his side. Kamposos took the 11th and the last round, winning.
