The “family” of Formula 1 sank into mourning, after he passed away at the age of 79 Sir Frank Williams.
The English businessman was born in 1942, while he founded his team in 1966, which has participated in the F1 championship since 1977.
In 1986 he became disabled after a car accident, something that stuck him in a wheelchair.
With his team won 9 constructors’ championships and 7 Formula 1 driver titles, while holding its majority stake until September 2020.
The announcement of his team:
“Williams Racing is deeply saddened by the death of its founder, Sir Frank Williams. Sir Frank was a legend and an iconic figure in our sport. His death marks the end of an era, both for our team and for F1. He was a unique and true pioneer. Despite the major adversities he encountered in his life, he led our team to 16 World Championships, making it one of the most successful teams in the history of the sport. His values, such as integrity, teamwork and fighting independence and determination, remain at the core of our team’s ethos and are his legacy, along with of course the name of the Williams family with whom we proudly fight. “Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
