Alison dos Santos, 22, achieved a highly expressive result on Tuesday night (19), in the United States. With what was the best time of his career –and the third best in the competition’s history–, the Brazilian became world champion in the 400m hurdles.

In the Eugene World Championship, in the state of Oregon, São Joaquim da Barra from São Paulo had a wide advantage over his competitors. He completed the course in 46s29 (World record), 0s60 ahead of second place, North American Rai Benjamin.

The American Trevor Bassit completed the podium with a time of 47.39. Gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics and world record holder, the Norwegian Karsten Warholm did not have a good performance, missed one of the barriers and got only seventh place, with 48.42.

Bronze in the last Olympic edition with a time of 46.72, Pio, as the Brazilian is known, has significantly reduced his time since then. At a very young age, he works to make it to the Paris Games in 2024 and has time to grow in his promising career.

On Tuesday night, he became only the second athlete from Brazil to win a gold medal at the Worlds, the first man. Only Fabiana Murer, in 2011, in the pole vault, had climbed to the top of the podium.

“It’s an indescribable moment. A wonderful feeling,” he told SporTV. “You know when you dream of something and wake up every day thinking about what you need to do to achieve it. I was like this this season, and here came my best result.”

As she had done in Tokyo, Alison arrived at the height of the season at the ideal moment, at the moment of greatest pressure. Once again, she set her personal best, showing ease in dealing with the big stage.

“Now I’m nicknamed Ice Cream. Here’s the easy part. Competing is very easy! There’s no difficulty, no stress, no pain, nothing. Training is difficult. Here, I feel at home, because I know the hard part is over,” he said.

For Piu, it is possible to seek the best time in the race’s history, recorded precisely in the Tokyo final, by Warholm, 45.94. If closing the dispute below 46 seconds seemed impossible a short time ago, it is not anymore. “[A pergunta] it’s not even if it’s possible. And when.”

“30 or 40 years from now, they will remember what Alison dos Santos did in the 400 m hurdles”, said the friendly athlete, with a smile capable of making the phrase non-arrogant. The celebration was interrupted by the American Bassit, bronze, who slapped him on the shoulder: “46s29, man?”.
