Jesse Lingard joins Nottingham Forest as a free agent (Richi Sampter/Nottingham Forest)

Jesse Lingard joined Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United this summer.

After spending more than 20 years at United, Lingard decided to leave Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of last season after disagreeing with the new deal.

West Ham were in discussions with Lingard in 2021, following his successful spell with David Moyes’ side, but they were unable to reach an agreement with the midfielder.

Lingard has now opted to sign a one-year deal with the newly announced Forest. The deal is said to be worth £80,000 a week, rising to £120,000 a week after performance-related bonuses.

Forrest secured his Premier League position for the season after defeating Huddersfield Town in the Championship playoff finals at the end of May.

Lingard will be reunited with his former teammate Dean Henderson, who joined Forest on loan earlier this month.

Forrest also confirmed that Lingard would wear a number 10 jersey.

Lingard started just two games for United in the Premier League last season and played just 356 minutes in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Forrest will face Newcastle United in the opening round of the Premier League on August 6.
