In detail, her message: “A day after his fourth birthday, our son came in for an unexpected operation. Intussusception (folding) of bowel.
A tumor was found. “Good-natured,” I said to myself. It must be benign.
A week later he was diagnosed with lymphoma. In the days, weeks and months that followed she endured and triumphed, undergoing chemotherapy.
He was and continues to be so brave. He did not lose his joy. So many friends and loved ones assured that none of us missed her.
Yesterday, our big boy rang the bell in the cancer ward at Nicklaus and the gratitude I feel is boundless. IN DISCONTINUED.
My family and I are grateful to the pediatricians, surgeons, doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff who cared for our boy and our family.
There was a lot of crying, but these special people made sure there were also lots of smiles, love and support. There really aren’t enough words. Just… THANK YOU.
One day, I want to talk more about this and create a necessary and meaningful dialogue around the topic of childhood cancer and what it has meant to me to be a parent in this condition. For now I’m just grateful. Happy Friday. God is good”.
