by

Qatar officially opened, this Tuesday (30), the Al Bayt stadium, which will host the opening of the World Cup, on November 22, 2022.

The arena built in the city of Al khor, in the north of the country, and nearly 50 km from Doha, has a capacity for 60,000 people. Among the eight stadiums at the World Cup, it is the farthest from the center of the capital. The name of the place has the meaning of house.

Its format is inspired by tents that nomadic people used to install throughout the region. Al Bayt also brings together a five-star hotel, with 96 rooms.

The stadium just doesn’t have a bigger audience capacity compared to Lusail, planned to accommodate 80,000 fans and the stage for the decision of the tournament’s title between national teams.

In addition to hosting the first match of the 2022 Cup, Al Bayt will host matches valid for the round of 16, quarters and semis.

This Tuesday, Al Bayt was inaugurated with the duel between the host team and Bahrain, which began at 1:30 pm (Brasilia time), for the Arab Cup. The home team won 1-0.

At 4 pm (GMT), the game between the United Arab Emirates and Syria marks the inauguration of another stadium, the Ras Abu Aboud, known as 974. This one, built in the port region of Doha, has a structure made up of containers.

With these two stadiums delivered, only the opening of Lusail will remain, which will stage the grand final of the 2022 World Cup. However, there is no opening date so far.

FIFA intends for the Arab Cup to serve as a test event for the Cup.
