Palmeiras seeks a draw with Atlético-MG and decides at home for a vacancy in the semi of Libertadores

With a goal by Danilo in stoppage time, Palmeiras sought an important draw against Atlético-MG this Wednesday (3), 2-2, in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.

The hosts even opened two goals ahead, with Hulk and an own goal by defender Murilo, but the defender himself was the one who took the first discount before Danilo scored in the final minutes.

With the result, the dispute for place in the semifinal is open. It is worth remembering that there is no longer an away goal as a tiebreaker. The return game will be next Wednesday (10), at Allianz Parque.

In addition, the draw at home made the team alviverde extend its long unbeaten run playing as a visitor in the competition. Now, there are 20 games without losing, with 14 wins and six draws. The team also had duels on neutral grounds, precisely the 2021 and 2020 finals, both won by the club.

The last Alviverde defeat away from home in Libertadores took place in April 2019, against San Lorenzo, from Argentina, 1-0.

In 2021, the two teams also faced each other in the competition, but in the semifinals. At the time, Palmeiras advanced to the final due to the extinct criterion of the away goal. The matches ended 0-0 at Allianz Parque, where Hulk missed a penalty, and 1-1 at Mineirão.
