Rio Ferdinand expects Manchester City to retain the Premier League title this season and predicts who will join Pep Guardiola’s side in the top four.
Manchester City won their fourth league title in five years last season and will face West Ham on Sunday in the 2022-23 season.
Liverpool finished just one point behind the English champions after a thrilling title run, while Chelsea finished third and Tottenham beat Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
Ferdinand believes Liverpool are the only team capable of finishing off Manchester City this season, but he hopes Spurs will continue their comeback with Antonio Conte and Eric ten Hag’s Manchester United.
As a result, Ferdinand predicted that Liverpool would finish the season runners-up, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the top four, with Chelsea and Arsenal missing out on a Champions League place.
“You can’t look past Manchester City,” the former England defender told William Hill. “Employment is effective and [Erling] Haaland, they have the best on the market.
‘When [they’ve got] Team depth with anyone [Kalvin] Phillips too. I think the only thing would be a loss for them [Raheem] Sterling, but it looks like it’s the season [Jack] He will become a man who represents Greeley.
The top four are Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United.
Under the leadership of Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United finished sixth without scoring for the fifth consecutive season last season.
Ferdinand is confident his former club will improve this season under former Ajax manager Ten Hag, but says United will have to deal with the narrative surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese legend is hoping to leave Old Trafford this summer, but Manchester United insist he is not for sale.
Ferdinand added:
“Darwin Nunez, Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski are gone. These are the three players I thought: ‘Look, this is all I’m looking for and I’m going straight to the Manchester United team.'”
But they left. Manchester United cannot let Ronaldo go. Even if he says goodbye, they won’t forgive him. That’s not right, I don’t think so.
