The inaugural UTR Pro Tennis Tour $25,000 men’s tournament, hosted by Monday August 1st until Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the facilities of the Glyfada Tennis Club.
Professional athletes from all over the world participated in the tournament. Among the Greek athletes who participated were Markos Kalovelonis, Aristotle Thanos, Giannis Stergiou, Giannis Xylas, Christos Keisidis, Paris Gemouhidis, Thanasis Stergiou, Stefanos Schinas, Thanasis Spyropoulos, while opposite them were athletes from Cyprus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Belarus, Argentina, Great Britain, Poland, Ukraine, France, Russia, Slovakia, etc.
The tournament introduced an innovative match system where all athletes, regardless of their results, participate in at least 5 matches, and after an extended round of semi-finals and finals, players are ranked from first to last, all receiving a total of $20,000 in prize money. . The participation of the athletes in the tournament was based on their international rating in the UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) and all the matches were broadcast live with “live streaming”.
The tournament was organized by the non-profit company “Tennis Hellas”, choosing to cooperate with UTR in order to give Greek athletes more opportunities to participate in high-level international competitions in their country, while at the same time giving them the opportunity to win cash prizes which they can use for their preparation as well as for competition trips abroad.
For the perfect organization of the tournament, Tennis Hellas thanks the Tennis Club of Glyfada for providing its facilities, as well as the Municipality of Glyfada, while for the overall financial support regarding monetary prizes, products, services and sponsorships, Tennis Hellas thanks the sponsors: Tatoi Club, Universal Tennis, Chaidemenos SA, Vikos SA, Maxima Insurance, Mediterraneo Hospital, Wilson. Finally, the contribution of the General Secretariat of Sports, which with its patronage provided its undivided support to these games, was also important.
The winner of the tournament in Glyfada was Aristotle Thanos, beating Yiannis Xylas in the final. During the week of August 8-14, Tennis Hellas is organizing a second international men’s $25,000 tournament at the Tatoi Club.
Tennis Hellas is a civic non-profit corporation that secures sponsorship funds and revenues that are spent and reinvested entirely in the development of tennis by organizing international matches of professional athletes in Greece.
