by

São Paulo beat Corinthians by 1-0 this Saturday afternoon (4), in the first game of the women’s Campeonato Paulista final, in Morumbi.

The goal of the match was scored by Micaelly. The return match takes place on Wednesday (8), at 9 pm, at Neo Química Arena. The dispute was scheduled for Arena Barueri, but Corinthians requested the change and the São Paulo Football Federation accepted the request.

After a first half with chances on both sides, in which São Paulo started better, but then balanced by Corinthians, the goal only came in the second stage.

São Paulo opened the scoring after 9 minutes. After stealing the ball in defense, Glaucia received it in the middle and gave a long and precise shot to Micaelly, who dominated on the left, cut Poliana and, with his right foot, placed it in the angle of goalkeeper Kemelli. It was the player’s first goal in this Paulista.

The Morumbi team, led by coach Lucas Piccinato, was superior in the second stage. In addition to the goal, he had chances to expand the score and stayed with the ball much more. Corinthians, in turn, attacked little, but had a goal disallowed in the 44th minute. Gabi Portilho sent it to the net after confusion in the area, but refereeing scored a foul on goalkeeper Carla.

On Wednesday, the two rivals will seek their third title in São Paulo. While Corinthians won the last two editions, in 2019 (when they beat São Paulo in the final) and 2020, São Paulo was champion in 1997 and 1999.

The decision puts the two best teams from the initial phase of the competition face to face. Corinthians was unbeaten until this Saturday (they had 12 wins and 1 draw), while São Paulo had lost only to Corinthians, in the first phase, by 2-1. They won all of their other 12 matches.

Corinthians, led by coach Arthur Elias, by the way, has already won two important titles this season. At the end of November, it conquered Libertadores. The final, won 2-0, was against Santa Fe, from Colombia. Two months earlier, he won the Brazilian Championship, beating Palmeiras in the final.

Elias, in charge of the team since 2016, already has 9 titles and 200 wins for Corinthians.
