Andy Murray defeated American wild card Emilio Nava 5-7 6-3 6-1 6-0 in the third round of the US Open on Wednesday.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, has battled cramp problems at Flushing Meadows this year, adding to his first straight-sets victory over world-ranked 203rd Francisco Cerundro.

After a shaky start at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the English tennis heroes delighted the American crowd by losing the first set before taking the second set 6-3 before falling back in the final stages of Paddy Field. Two of 6-1 and 6-0 respectively.

The 35-year-old former World No. 1, currently ranked No. 51 in the world, continues to bounce back from injury problems and faces a major challenge ahead of his next match against Matteo Berrettini.

‘[Emilio Nava] He scored a lot of points in the first set,” Murray said in his post-match interview. I started hitting the ball a little deeper and was able to control the scoreboard.

played a very long five-set match [in the opening round] I think he has lost his level because it is not something he can easily recover from, but he is a great young player and he has a bright future ahead of him.

“Physically, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years. My movements have been the best for a long time and it’s always been a big part of my game.”

“I’m getting closer to where I want to be and hopefully I can get some deep perspective here.”

Murray now faces Italy’s No. 13 seed Belletti. Beretti is enjoying an impressive 2022 season, as he was a Wimbledon finalist last year, reached the Australian Open semi-finals and won two ATP Tour titles.

They competed at the Queen’s Club in England and the Stuttgart Open in Germany, where Berrettini defeated Murray in the final in June.

In the men’s draw, Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans look to join Murray in the third round, which is a good start for the British players.

Draper beat Finn Emil Rusbor in his first match but faces a fierce third-round clash with Felix Auger-Aliassime at midnight British time.

Nory, the seventh seed, and Evans, the 20th seed, will face Portugal’s Joao Sousa and Australia’s James Duckworth in the second round on Thursday.
