Nigel de Jong thinks Richard Keys is not seeing the ‘big picture’ after Arsenal’s latest win (beIN Sports)

Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has responded to Richard Keys, redoubling his criticism of Arsenal players and Mikel Arteta by celebrating Saturday’s loss to Fulham.

Arsenal beat Fulham 2-1 in the second half to start the new Premier League season unbeaten.

Arteta’s side won the first four games in what was the best start to their Premier League campaign since 2004, but Keys was in the spotlight for jubilation at the Emirates Stadium after a narrow victory over Fulham.

But De Jong, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012, believes Casey is ignoring Arsenal’s recent victories and the resilience the team has shown after scoring.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Keith said: “We understand Arsenal fans are celebrating what they have achieved.

The manager and his players over-celebrated the 2-1 win over Fulham.

Richard Keyes has been unhappy with Mikel Arteta's celebrations after his victory over Fulham.

“I think Arteta & Co.’s kind of reaction to yesterday’s events speaks to how far they’ve come.

Arsene Wenger would have roared in the arena if his team had won 2-1. The own goal was out of the question until Jay received the deflection and the gift. [sic] Lion.

Andy Gray then said: And on this point I agree with you.

“But they had little to look forward to. Remember, 12 months ago they were only losing three games in a row.”

Keys said, “Yeah, but whose fault is it, Andy?

“They sacked Wenger. They didn’t give Unai Emery enough time to finish the job he started. It’s a 2-1 win against Fulham.”

Gray said, “I understand what you’re saying. Tell me, Nigel. [De Jong] I was in his Manchester City or I was by my side. We both won titles and it will happen.

“You’re not going to celebrate like you did when you won the FA Cup or something like that, but I think it measures where Arsenal are at the moment more than anything else.

However, the 2-1 victory over newly promoted Fulham was welcomed by manager and players alike.

“Okay fans, enjoy your afternoon, great, celebrate as you please.

But come on… Fulham. They haven’t played anyone yet, Arsenal.

However, de Jong, who worked as a critic for beIN Sports, later told Keyes:

“You still have four games left. They have 12 points from four games. When did they start the season like this?

‘what you [Andy Gray] Having said that, of course it is also very important. Arsenal have not been successful in the last two years and there is no reason to celebrate.

this is not discussed [beating Fulham], you have to see it as a bigger picture. The fact that they turned around the ballpark and showed resilience says something about this team.

Of course, it’s still early, but I think you’re putting too much emphasis on the holidays. You don’t talk about the game because technically it was played.

“Let them celebrate. What’s wrong with celebrating?”
