Eric Bailly has attacked Harry Maguire accusing Manchester United of “supporting” an English player in their team.
Bailly made just seven appearances for United last season but was allowed to move to Marseille on loan for the rest of the season after telling the club he wanted to leave in the summer.
Meanwhile, Maguire struggled to find form last season and after a poor start to the new campaign, United’s £80m signing Eric ten Hag was forced to a 3-1 win over Arsenal. . He has missed the last four Premier League games, including Sunday.
Bailey set her sights on Maguire in April, backing up comments from fans on Instagram calling for Ralf Rangnick to leave the United captain and Ivory Coast’s Rafael Varane.
And now, Bailey has spoken publicly for the first time about how he feels some United players take for granted that they are starters despite their performances in previous games.
“Clubs should avoid favoring English players and give everyone a chance,” Bailly told The Times.
‘[The club should] Some also encourage competition in the locker room. I always felt that the selection was a priority.
It doesn’t happen at Chelsea or any other big club in the Premier League. There are people who take it for granted that it starts and that slows down the team. [Erik] Ten Hag has a lot of personality and I hope he can change that dynamic.
I met Eric ten Hag in the dressing room at the end of last season when he went to sign the contract.
“I was packing my things because I was going to leave, but he told me that he wanted to stay because he was going to give everyone the minutes.
“I agreed to do a summer tour with United and he kept his promise, but sometimes I don’t want to play. I want to play every week and feel important. I want to get my confidence back.”
