Third defeat for the National Junior Volleyball team in the European Championship

by

THE National Youth experienced a third consecutive defeat in the final phase of the European U20 Championship, which is held in Italy and is now bottom of Group B after Finland’s 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18) defeat her. The Greek team lagged behind in attack against the Scandinavians (33% vs. 53%), but could have led the match in the tie-break, since the game was “open” at 17-16 in the fourth set.

In the first set, the internationals found themselves behind early (4-1, 7-2), they got closer to 12-9, but nothing more. In the second set, many counterattacks were lost, but with the limitation of mistakes and the serves of Bakodimos, the Greek team had a stable lead (7-4, 14-8, 17-11) and comfortably reached the tie.

But that was it, since the continuation was not similar. At the start of the third set, the difference took on dimensions (6-2, 9-6, 14-6), while in the fourth, as mentioned above, Greece was in contention until 17-16, but the reception problems and the bad selections resulted in individual scores of 8-2, with Finland cruising to victory.

Finland’s points came from 4 aces, 51 attacks, 13 blocks and 27 opponent errors and Greece’s 3 aces, 35 attacks, 5 blocks and 32 opponent errors.

FINLAND (Yuko Lindbergh): Tinismaa 5 (4/6 ff., 1 ace), Haapaniemi 14 (9/11 ff., 5 blocks), Martila L. 13 (11/29 ff., 1 ace, 1 block, 58% sub.-33% excellent), Martila N. 18 (15/23 ref., 1 ace, 2 blocks, 60% sub.-40% excellent), Vaananen 2 (0/1 ref., 2 blocks), Lindqvist 14 (11/22 ref. ., 3 blocks) / Salpakari (l, 42% sub.-16% excellent), Taponen, Haapoja, Leinonen 1 (1 ace), Zbankov 1 (1/2 ref.).

GREECE (Nikos Mouchlias): Theodosis 2 (2/7 ff.), Nanopoulos 11 (10/31 ff., 1 ace, 69% sub.-38% excellent), Markou 10 (8/28 ff., 2 blocks), Bakodimos 14 (10/ 27 f., 2 aces, 2 blocks, 48% sub.-26% excellent), Petsias 1 (0/1 f., 1 block), Marcellos 1 (1/2 f.) / Folias (l, 25% f. .-06% excellent), Konidis, Christopoulos, Stathelos 4 (4/8 ff.).
