Ceni does not guarantee permanence in São Paulo after loss of title

Before the final of the Sudamericana, Rogério Ceni stated on some occasions that the result in the decision would determine his continuity or not in front of the tricolor team. After the defeat to Del Valle this Saturday (1), however, the coach left the possibility still open to me.

“That [permanência] we will analyze in the next few days, play the next game of the Brazilian. Let’s analyze it calmly,” he said.

For the coach, the team needs to focus on Nacional to save the next season. The club’s objective now is to win at least one spot in the pre-Libertadores. Currently, the club is in the second half of the table, with 37 points, outside the classification zone for next year’s South American Championship.

“Today was a very important day in the club’s history, we could have changed that decade”, lamented the captain. “We are sorry for the fan who traveled, had difficulties, attended a very nice number. This is what hurts the most”, said the tricolor commander.

Striker Luciano acknowledged that Del Valle deserved to win the title and apologized to the fans.

“[Temos que] recognize that we were wrong, that we didn’t do the right thing and lost the championship. They were better, they scored both goals in the two chances they had. Now, it’s on to see what we can do in the [Campeonato Brasileiro]”, said the striker.

Then he addressed the tricolor crowd. “We’re all sad, it’s regretting. Once again, apologizing to the fan, I’m once again apologizing to the fan. We wanted to give them the title, but we didn’t.”

Luciano was especially sorry, too, because he could have ended the competition as São Paulo’s big name in the competition. With five goals in 12 games, he was the team’s top scorer in the tournament.

Precisely in the decision, however, he had one of his worst performances. The entire tricolor attack was bad. In all, the team had ten submissions, only four on target.
