Nick Kyrgios: Mental health problem is cited in the trial for violence against his ex

by

His lawyers spoke of mental health problems Nick Kyrgiou in the first hearing in an Australian court since charges of physical violence he faces from his ex-partnerChiara Passari.

The defense line of the Australian tennis player with Greek roots will seek his release from this charge and an out-of-court settlement. The reported incident occurred in January 2021 and was reported by the alleged victim in December.

Attorney Michael Kakalis-Smith reported that Kyrgios has been dealing with mental health issues since 2015 and even presented some statements that the athlete had made on the subject in the past. Just last February, the world number 20 revealed that he had gone through a very “dark” period, in which he had abused himself and even considered suicide.

I was lonely, depressed, very negative about everything, drank a lot of alcohol, took drugs and cut off family and friends. I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone. This was a result of me refusing to lean on a loved oneKyrgios had said via Instagram.

The next hearing, which Kyrgios himself wants to attend according to his lawyers, is scheduled for February 3. The 27-year-old is set to take part in the Japan Open these days, returning to the courts after the US Open where he reached the quarter-finals. By his side in Tokyo is his partner, Costin Hadji, to whom he is about to get engaged.
