President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) authorized the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to appoint up to 625 new federal road police officers.
The Executive claims that the hiring fits the exception of the electoral law that allows hiring during the campaign period in situations necessary for the “unavoidable operation of essential public services”.
The government announced that the decree to release the portfolio to make the appointments will be published in the Official Gazette on Thursday (6).
“The ministry considered that due to the demands of the election period and the demands of travel during the holidays and vacation period of late 2022 and early 2023, in addition to other issues, the failure to immediately appoint personnel to the PRF would compromise the urgent operation of the public safety and road safety activities”, said the advisory to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
The nominees will complete the training course this Thursday. The government informs that the exact number of nominees depends on other factors, such as possible dropouts and failures in the course, but that up to 625 new hires are authorized.
On September 30, Bolsonaro had already authorized the ministry to appoint up to 561 new Federal Police officers.
The measures represent a nod from the president to his electoral base. With great penetration in the security forces, the Chief Executive was criticized by members of the PF and the Federal Highway Police for not having carried out the restructuring of the careers he had promised.
In the same way, the representative did not foresee a salary readjustment for the categories next year.
By sanctioning the LDO (Lei de Diretrizes Orçamentárias), which provides the basis for the preparation of the 2023 Budget, Bolsonaro rejected the passages that authorized restructuring and salary recomposition of these careers, which are part of the government’s political support base.
The president even defended a greater readjustment for the police forces linked to the Union, but did not take the idea forward. Later, he even talked about granting a linear increase of 5% to all categories, but he also did not materialize this plan.
