Max Verstappen will finally start from the 1st position on the grid. The Dutch Red Bull driver had set the fastest time by 0.010s from Charles Leclerc, but there was a chance he would be penalized for an incident with Lando Norris, which ultimately did not happen.
Specifically, the Dutchman was trying to warm up the tires and was in slow motion as Norris came at high speed, but a sharp turn by Verstappen sent the Brit onto the grass to avoid him. The F1 champion was summoned by the stewards to apologize for the incident, but in the end he did not receive any penalty but only a warning.
In doing so, he will start as poleman in his quest to secure a second consecutive championship, which will happen if he takes the maximum 26 points tomorrow (9/10, 20:00) in Suzuka.
