Philippe Coutinho gets injured and could miss the World Cup

On the eve of Tite’s call-up with the 26 names that will represent Brazil in the World Cup, midfielder Philippe Coutinho, 30, suffered a muscle injury and will hardly be able to play in the tournament.

The player was injured during training at Aston Villa (ING) and was not even listed for the match against Manchester United, this Sunday (6), when his team beat the opponent, 3-1, at home, in the English Championship. .

“I don’t know how long it will last, but today he can’t play and he won’t play until the stoppage. [para a Copa do Mundo]. It’s a muscle injury,” explained Aston Villa coach Unai Emery.

Despite having prestige with the Brazilian technical commission, Coutinho was at a low point in his club, embittering the reserve in some games. Because of that, he was not even called up by Tite for the last friendlies before the Cup, against Ghana and Tunisia.

In 2018, however, he was one of Brazil’s highlights at the World Cup held in Russia. Then he was out of the national team for more than a year due to knee surgery. He only returned to the Canarian team in 2021.

In the Tite era at the head of Brazil, which began in 2016, Coutinho played 51 matches.

This Monday (7), at 1 pm (GMT), Tite will present at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), in Rio de Janeiro, the 26 players who will represent Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar.

In search of the sixth world cup, Brazil will face Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon in the first phase. The debut for Group G, against the Serbs, will be on November 24, at 16:00 (Brasília time), in Lusail.

Before landing in Qatar, the Brazilian delegation will make a stopover in Turin, Italy, where part of the preparation for the World Cup will take place. The Brazilian squad will stay at the Juventus training center between the 14th and 19th of November.

The arrival in Qatar is also scheduled for the 19th, and the first training session in the country for the World Cup will be on the 20th, four days before the debut.
