Opinion – Walter Casagrande Jr.: Tite’s list is good, but Daniel Alves’ call-up is absurd

by

We already know which players will defend Brazil in the World Cup. I thought it was a good call-up, especially with the youth of the forwards.

Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, both from Real Madrid, could not be left out of this list in any way. They are two youngsters who play with a very heavy shirt and behave as if they were on any team. Determinants in winning the last Champions League, they continue to be this season.

We also have Antony, Pedro, Paquetá and Gabriel Jesus, players will be part of the Brazilian team for a long time, as is the case with Jesus

No discussion about goalkeepers. I thought Cássio could be on the list, but Alisson, Ederson and Weverton deserve to go to the Cup.

There was also justice in the call-up of the defenders, but I contest Thiago Silva, who, for me, lacks emotional balance in times of pressure. I’m not making anything up. These are events that occurred during his career.

We cannot forget the penalty shootout against Chile, in the round of 16 of 2014, when he turned his back and had a crying fit. In the quarterfinals, against Colombia, he received a childish yellow card at the end, preventing the goalkeeper from playing, and was left out of the embarrassment against Germany. Not to mention that he loves to put his hand on the ball inside the area in decisive games.

The midfield had no secrets. Casemiro is super holder. Fred, although I don’t like his style, he’s been Tite’s starter for a long time. Bruno Guimarães’ place is well deserved, because he is a great player.

The annoyance of the vast majority of Brazilians was the lack of criteria for calling Daniel Alves. It’s absurd, it’s a big disrespect for the full-backs who train, play, win titles and strive with the hope of justice to go to the World Cup. And the coach takes a guy who isn’t even playing.

Daniel is 39 years old and, since he went to São Paulo, he hasn’t played anywhere. At Barcelona, he was not even registered for the Europa League, and the coach is his friend Xavi. At Pumas, it was complete decay. And now he’s training in Barcelona’s B team.

Even so, Tite summons Daniel for the Cup. You can’t just accept such nonsense.

He was so cocky that he didn’t even turn red during the press conference. In addition, he did not call Gabriel, from Flamengo, who is a player with a lot of personality and used to scoring decisive, weighty goals that give titles.

With 26 names on the list, no one in the world would leave out a top scorer like Gabriel. It was a great injustice with a guy who scored goals in two Libertadores titles. Without explanation.

Finally, I will talk about Neymar.

Are you the best Brazilian player? It still is, yes.

What’s your big problem then? Simple: narcissistic, selfish, confused between being a player and a celebrity. He has never shown focus and clearly suffers from Peter Pan syndrome.

I’ll explain: Peter Pan syndrome is a disorder that makes it difficult for a person to mature. Who, even as an adult, behaves like a teenager, refuses to grow up, does not assume responsibilities and always turns to someone to decide important things.

Neymar has all these characteristics. So much so that, in his testimony in the process in Barcelona, he said that he signs everything his father orders.

Can you decide the Cup? He can. Got football to unbalance? It does, although it hasn’t decided important games for a long time. He hasn’t scored a decisive goal against big teams for a long time, but he can suddenly start doing it in the Cup.

You will have to decide between being a Brazilian player in the World Cup and a Brazilian celebrity in Qatar. You need to focus on games and be less narcissistic. Will Neymar be able to make the right choices?
