Judicial vindication of ELOP for the punishment of Pilidis

by

The single-member Court of First Instance of Athens, with its decision today, vindicated her Hellenic Wrestling Federationregarding his appeal of injunctive relief George Pilidisfor the two-year sentence imposed on him.

The athlete appealed asking for the temporary injunction to suspend his punishment and the court decided to rejected his application.

On the occasion of what happened in Kilkis, the Hellenic Wrestling Federation calls on the sports and state leadership of the country to cooperate closely, so that be eliminated all the phenomena of violence in the playing fields. The determination and cooperation of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteri Avgenakisof the president of the EOE, Spyros Kapralos and the federations, should be narrow, so that similar phenomena of brutal violence and intimidation of athletes and coaches do not recur.

With a special sense of responsibility, the Hellenic Wrestling Federation publicly declares that it did not have and does not have an end in itself to punish the athletes, but everyone is responsible for their actions.

ELOP has already started contacts with athletes who have been punished and have recognized the serious mistakes that were made in Kilkis and exposed the sport. Our goal is their immediate reintegration into the playing fields respected the Principles of Olympism, “noble competition” and fair competition, as Greek sports and the Olympic Charter of the IOC have been relaying for years.
