The World Cup in Qatar suffered yet another major loss after Senegal announced that Sadio Mané did not recover in time from a fibula injury and will require surgery. Argentina also lost Nico González and Joaquín Correa this Thursday (17).
Who leads the statistics of players who were cut from the tournament is France, who no longer had Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté in the squad. The current champion still lost Presnel Kimpembe and Christopher Nkunku on the eve of the tournament.
Another of the absences of this World Cup is that of Marco Reus, from Germany, once again injured before an important tournament. The same happened on the eve of the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2021.
Besides him, Timo Werner suffered an ankle injury in early November and was left out of Hansi Flick’s list, as well as Florian Wirtz, who was recovering from a knee ligament injury.
Portugal’s Diogo Jota was sidelined in October after suffering a calf muscle injury against Liverpool. Giovani Lo Celso, also due to muscle problems, underwent surgery on his thigh and is yet another absence from Argentina.
England had problems on the wings, with two Chelsea players. Both Ben Chilwell, who plays left, and Reece James, who plays right, had to sit out.
Even Brazil had problems, as Philippe Coutinho was injured on the eve of the competition. He was one of Tite’s options.
