Brazilian team releases official photo of the World Cup in Qatar

The CBF released this Friday morning (18) the official photo of the Brazilian team that is in the dispute of the World Cup in Qatar. The first game is scheduled for next Thursday (24th), at 4 pm, against Serbia.

The Brazilian team will also face Switzerland on the 28th, starting at 1 pm, and on December 2, against Cameroon, at 2 pm.

For the fifth consecutive edition of the World Cup, Brazil will be represented by a selection with less than five athletes who play in clubs in the country.

Coach Tite’s squad has only three active players in Brazil. They are goalkeeper Weverton (Palmeiras), midfielder Éverton Ribeiro and striker Pedro (Flamengo).

The number was repeated in 2006, 2010 and 2018. As the total squad increased to 26 —due to the heat in Qatar and the Covid pandemic—, this will be the most “foreign” selection of all Cups, with 23 athletes playing abroad and only 11.5% in clubs in Brazil.

The selection will have in Qatar 12 players born in the state of São Paulo, five in Rio de Janeiro and three in Rio Grande do Sul. Bahia and Minas Gerais have two representatives. Acre and Espírito Santo complete the list, with one selected each.

The main star of the squad, Neymar will become the first Brazilian player after Pelé to compete in three World Cups wearing the legendary shirt number 10 of the selection immortalized by the King.
