Italy, current champions of Europe, but who did not qualify for the World Cup, will have a representative on the field on Sunday (20), in the opening match of the competition.

Daniele Orsato, 46, was chosen to be the referee of the duel between Qatar and Ecuador, at 1 pm (Brasília time), announced FIFA. The game will be at Al Bayt Stadium, in the city of Al Khor.

He refereed the 2020 Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, which the German club won 1-0.

He also participated in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, for which the Italian team also failed to qualify. At the time, he worked as a video assistant referee (VAR).

The host country, which is playing its first Cup, and Ecuador, in its fourth participation, are in Group A, along with Senegal and Holland.
