Corinthians announces Fernando Lázaro as its new coach

Corinthians announced this Sunday (20) the name of their new coach. This is Fernando Lázaro, 41, who has extensive experience as a performance analyst and was at the service of the Brazilian national team. He left the green-yellow concentration in Turin, before the trip to Qatar for the World Cup, and returned to Brazil to work on the alvinegro planning for 2023.

Lázaro is the son of former right-back Zé Maria, 73, an idol who defended the club in the 1970s and 1980s and participated in the goal of the historic 1977 São Paulo title. father and son duo working for the Parque São Jorge association.

It will be the young man’s first effective experience as head coach, although he managed Corinthians in an interim basis in seven matches, between 2021 and 2022. their leadership of the group.

Substitute for the Portuguese Vítor Pereira, who left due to health problems in the family, Lázaro arrived at the club in 1999, aged 17, to work in the IT department. With a studious profile, he gained space and became responsible for the praised Cifut (Football Intelligence Center), an area of ​​performance analysis and recruitment of athletes.

He was alongside several coaches and was taken to the Brazilian national team by Tite, leaving Corinthians in 2016. He returned in 2021, but continued to collaborate with the national team and was part of it until this week. He also came to work at Lyon, in the brief period in which the French team was managed by Sylvinho.

“The 17-year-old Fernando didn’t have the slightest idea. He arrived here young, not knowing what to do, and he started to form here. Corinthians was my college for everything, more than anything. I went through several processes, helped with physiology, in physical preparation, and you end up learning a little bit”, he said in 2021, on one of the occasions when he was interim coach.
