#Hashtag: Mascot without beer: see the memes from the first day of the World Cup

by

Now it’s official: the 2022 World Cup has started in Qatar.

The opening ceremony, broadcast from 11:40 am this Sunday morning (Brasília time), featured appearances by the American actor Morgan Freeman, the Qatari influencer Ghanim al-Muftah and even the South Korean icon Jung Kook, a member of the k-pop group BTS.

Soon after, Qatar became the first host team to lose a game in their World Cup opener. In a match against Ecuador, the Latin American team hit the net three times. Of Enner Valencia’s three goals, 33, two were worth it – a penalty kick and another header.

And, of course, netizens did not forgive the fact. Among the memes, several posts linked Qatar’s defeat to allegations of homophobia and human rights violations in the country.

What did not go unnoticed by netizens was the number of Valencia, striker from Ecuador:

Directly from 1982, president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sent a message:

Expectations for Brazil’s first game remain high on the nets. The selection faces Serbia on Thursday, the 24th, at 4 pm.

Meanwhile, given the ban on the sale of beer in stadiums and the exorbitant price of the drink at Fan Fest, fans claim what is, apparently, the universal will of this Cup: “We want beer!”

At the Meme Cup, the first day was already a success. The way is to wait for the next ones.
