Swiss goalkeepers wear sunglasses in training to improve performance

The goalkeepers of the Swiss national team, Brazil’s opponent in the second round of the World Cup, on Monday (28), are wearing dark glasses during training, which would help with reflection to anticipate the game’s moves.

Images from training this Monday (21) show starter Sommer and reserve Kobel training with the equipment.

The glasses are manufactured by the Japanese company Visionup. They are battery operated and “stimulate the brain and improve vision through the intermittent shutter,” according to the company.

It’s as if the image were flashing, giving the sensation of the ball being in slow motion. The company also promises an improvement in peripheral vision and depth perception.

According to the English newspaper The Sun, the glasses cost 350 pounds (about R$ 2,100).

Sommer would have already used the glasses during training for the Euro Cup last year. On that occasion, Switzerland beat France in the Round of 16 on penalties. The goalkeeper was the highlight of the game, defending Mbappé’s kick.
