Brazil’s games in this year’s World Cup will be on weekdays and during business hours, coinciding with the working hours of most companies. The Brazilian team debuts in the championship next Thursday (24th) at 4 pm.
The national team’s game day is not a holiday, but some Brazilian municipalities usually declare an optional point and, traditionally, employers and employees agree to follow the team’s matches in one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.
Federal civil servants will have special working hours on match days in Brazil, ending the day two hours before departure time. The rules do not apply to services considered essential.
In São Paulo, public and private schools will dismiss students earlier, while some private schools have decided to keep teams of teachers on duty in case parents cannot pick up their children before matches.
