Denmark opposes Infantino’s re-election after LGBT armband veto

by

The Danish Football Association says it will not vote for the current president, Gianni Infantino, due to the armband ban in support of the LGBTQIA+ cause One Love (one love) at the World Cup.

Seven teams from the continent intended to use the armband as a form of protest against the way in which human rights are treated in Qatar, but had to back out after being threatened with sanctions by FIFA, such as a yellow card for each captain who wore the belt. .

“We will have presidential elections in FIFA. There are 211 countries in FIFA and I understand that the current president has declarations of support from 207 countries”, said the president of the federation, Jesper Möller. “Denmark is not among those countries. Nor will it be.”

Regarding the possibility of Denmark withdrawing from Fifa, information initially disclosed, the country’s football federation denied that it is true.

“Some media have made a misunderstanding that the DBU is going to withdraw from FIFA,” the federation’s head of communications, Jakob Hoejer, told Reuters news agency.

Denmark drew 0-0 with Tunisia in their opening match at the World Cup in Qatar.
