by

The exciting match between Iran and Wales this Friday (25) debuted the red card at the 2022 World Cup. Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey clumsily left the area in an attempt to ward off an Iranian launch and ended up hitting striker Taremi with a kick.

The goalkeeper’s knee hit the face of the Iranian number nine, who managed to stay in the game until the end, despite the blow.

The referee checked the play on VAR and expelled the goalkeeper with the 174th red card in the history of the Cups. Of these, 11 were distributed to players from the Brazilian national team: among them, Kaká, Nilton Santos, Felipe Melo, Garrincha and Ronaldinho Gaúcho.

With one less, the Welsh team, already barely reactive before the expulsion, were surrounded in their area by the Iranian attack.

Between rebounds from crosses and blocked shots, Rouzbeh Cheshmi, a few meters from the edge of the area, filled his right foot to put the ball in the low left corner of the Welsh goal in the 17th game of this edition of the World Cup, starting the heroic victory Iranian by 2 to 0.

The last game of the Iranians will be against the Americans, on Tuesday (29), at 4 pm, while the Welsh will have to beat their English neighbors on the same day and time to continue dreaming of the Cup.
