Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, from Morocco, was scheduled for the game this Sunday (27th) against Belgium, at the Al Thumama stadium, in Doha (Qatar). He was even profiled on the lawn during the national anthem and greeted the Belgian players. But soon after, he made way for substitute Mnoir Kajoui and stayed on the bench watching his teammates win the game 2-0.
According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, Bounou felt bad, dizzy and his eyesight was affected, so he was in no condition to play.
The sudden change took broadcasters by surprise. According to the English newspaper The Sun, the BBC broadcast spent 25 minutes narrating the match as if Bounou was the starting goalkeeper.
Yassine Bounou, 31, is a player for Sevilla, Spain. He has 47 appearances for the Moroccan national team. He disputes his second World Cup.
