With the departure of Alex Telles due to an injury to his right knee, in the match against Cameroon this Friday (2), the Brazilian team has 3 of their 4 full-backs injured – the extent of the injury felt by the Sevilla athlete is still unknown.

According to the CBF medical bulletin, Telles underwent a clinical evaluation and will undergo an MRI this Saturday (3).

The first to be injured was right back Danilo, from Juventus, in the opening match against Serbia, on November 24th. He had a medial ligament injury to his left ankle.

Then it was the turn of left-back Alex Sandro, also from Juventus, who suffered a muscle injury in his left hip, in the second game of the selection in the World Cup, against Switzerland.

Both athletes are still recovering from injuries.

The only full-back in playing condition is veteran Daniel Alvez, 39, who started this Friday’s match.

He has survived a serious injury, recent stints with different clubs, distrust and criticism for being called up. With the performance against Cameroon, he became the oldest player to play for the Brazilian national team in a World Cup.

Even before being called up to Qatar, Tite had already lost left-back Guilherme Arana, who had been called up. The Atlético Mineiro athlete suffered a serious injury to his left knee in September, which made him the shot of the tournament.

Injuries join the list of absences on the sides of the Brazilian team in World Cups.

More recently, Danilo himself had already been injured, in the dispute of the 2018 World Cup, in Russia – he started as a starter on the right side, but suffered a muscle injury in his hip during a training session before the second game of the group stage, against Costa Rica.

Two other notable absences took place in the 1994 World Cup, in the United States. During the tetra campaign, the title-backs were Jorginho, on the right, and Leonardo, on the left. The latter won the position on the eve of the tournament, when Branco felt pain in his sciatic nerve.
