FIFA rejects France’s appeal against Tunisia match result

by

FIFA announced this Monday (5) that it has rejected the complaint presented last week by the French Football Federation (FFF), in which it asked for the change of the result of the game against Tunisia, which beat the Blues by 1-0 in the of the Qatar World Cup after a goal by Antoine Griezmann was disallowed after the final whistle.

“FIFA’s Disciplinary Commission has rejected the complaint filed by the FFF in relation to the World Cup match between Tunisia and France, played on 30 November,” the organization said in a brief statement.

In their appeal, France expressed doubts over the use of VAR to rule out a Griezmann goal in the 53rd minute.

The FFF alleged that VAR was used “after the restart of the game and after the end of the match”, which is contrary to the protocol for using the technology.

In any case, a modification of the final result would not change the classification of Group D: Tunisia would remain eliminated and France would remain as leader of the group.

On the other hand, the FFF could consider itself prejudiced in terms of the Fifa ranking: the defeat to Tunisia takes 38 points away from France, which would put it under threat from England, in fifth place.

A draw would be more advantageous for the French, as the Fifa ranking is used to designate seeds in international competitions.
