The annual Cypriot table tennis invitational event will take place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 December and POEPA has determined that this year it will be for sportsmen and women up to 21 years of age.
Greece is among the countries that are invited and will go to martyred Megalonis next Thursday with two athletes and two athletes. He will line up 20-year-old Gerasimos Hatzilygeroudis of AO Tataula, 17-year-old Alexandros Madesis of AEK, 15-year-old Lemonia Gaidatzis of AEK and 16-year-old Stella Tzaridou of HANTH. The head of the mission and responsible for the technical guidance will be the national federal coach of the men, Kostas Vatsaklis.
Not many details about the tournament have yet been made known, however it is traditionally hosted before the Christmas holidays in the POEPA hall at the “Evangelos Florakis” multi-training center and includes team and individual competitions.
Hatzilygeroudis is currently the runner-up of Greece in men’s doubles and number 1 in the EFOEPA Young Men’s rating table. Madesis holds the second place in the same category of the ranking list and the corresponding pan-Hellenic singles title.
Gaidatzi, number 4 this month in the U21 women’s rankings, is coming off the big international success with the girls’ doubles gold medal at the 2022 Balkan Championships. Tzaridou, who just last Sunday emerged as the winner of the juniors at the development Open in Alexandroupolis, she is at number 5 in the Young Women’s ranking.
Gaidatzi, Tzaridou and Madesis were also last year in the Cyprus tournament when it also concerned the boys-girls age category.
