A teenager died after being run over on Wednesday night (14) in Montpellier, in the south of France, after the French team qualified for the final of the World Cup in Qatar by beating Morocco 2-0, announced the town hall.
The driver responsible for the hit-and-run fled and the vehicle was found near the crash site, according to the prefecture.
The victim, rushed to the hospital, died shortly afterwards.
According to deputy Nathalie Oziol, from the Nupes coalition (on the left), the events took place in the popular neighborhood of Paillade and the victim was 14 years old. The parliamentarian lamented that this “sports event ends in absolute drama”.
“We want the authors of this disgusting act to be found so that they can be judged,” said this Thursday, on the same social network, the mayor of Montpellier, Michael Delafosse, expressing his “consternation”.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office did not provide further details about the circumstances of the fatal accident at this time.
