This year’s international tournament of the World Table Tennis Federation of Cyprus for young ages will be dedicated to the memory of the president of the Philathletic Table Tennis Federation of Greece for many years, Christos Christodoulatos, who has consistently contributed to Cyprus’s effort to develop the sport first as a distinguished athlete and later as a leading administrative factor.
In a letter to EFOEPA, POEPA informed that it is making this move to the invitational tournament. The tournament is held 16-18/12/2022 in Nicosia with the participation of Greece, while he noted that next year at events celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation, POEPA will award a special honorary award for the contribution of this emblematic person of sport in Cypriot table tennis, inviting members of his family.
On Thursday, the Greek delegation will depart for the established tournament, which this year concerns athletes up to 21 years of age. He moves to Megalonis with 20-year-old Gerasimos Hatzilygeroudis of AO Tataula, 17-year-old Alexandros Madesis of AEK, 15-year-old Lemonia Gaidatzis of AEK and 16-year-old Stella Tzaridou of HANTH.
The head of the mission and responsible for the technical guidance is the national federal coach of the men, Kostas Vatsaklis.
In a festive atmosphere, as every year, the matches take place before the Christmas holidays in the POEPA hall at the “Evangelos Florakis” multi-training center. They include the team, singles and doubles for men and women up to 21 years of age and, according to the information from POEPA, in addition to the host country and Greece, Romania and Lebanon will participate.
