Apostolos Christou participated in the sixth heat of the men’s 50m backstroke at the 25-man World Championships in Melbourne, where he finished second in 23.18, behind Isaal-Alan Cooper in 22.79 and an Oceania record, getting his “ticket” to the semi-finals race, together with the American Hunter Armstrong and ahead of the also American Ryan Murphy.
Thus, Christou qualified with the eighth best time.
Poland’s Kasper Stokowski set a games record with 22.78.
The two semi-finals are scheduled for 10:59 and 11:03 on Thursday.
As for Andreas Vazeos, within 20 minutes he competed in the preliminaries of two events. First in the 200m butterfly, where with 1:52.28 in the fourth row he was fifth, ranked 12th overall and eliminated from the final.
