Croatia, winner of the World Cup third place match over Morocco, won a prize pool of US$ 27 million (R$ 143.4 million). The African team was not far behind – the difference is US$ 2 million (R$ 10.8 million).
This year’s edition is the one that will pay the most to the winning teams, with an estimated total of R$ 2 billion. All 32 participating teams receive something, depending on the stage at which they are eliminated in the tournament.
Croatia and Morocco had already faced each other in this World Cup, right in the first round of Group F and were 0-0. The match seemed to have opened up weaknesses in the teams, but the tournament showed the opposite, since the African team qualified in first, Europe in second, while Belgium and Canada were on the way.
To reach the dispute for third place, Croatia passed Japan and Brazil, on penalties, and lost to Argentina. Morocco, on the other hand, overcame Spain, on penalties, and Portugal. Defeat came to France.
In this Saturday’s match (17), the game was designed differently. Croatia opened the scoring with Gvardiol at seven, while Morocco equalized almost two minutes later, with Daric. Orsic, at the end of the first half, secured the Croatian victory.
The final of the Cup will be disputed this Sunday (18), at 12h, between France and Argentina.
