Argentina rehearses team with three defenders for the final of the Cup against France

Lionel Scaloni did not want to confirm, in his press conference this Saturday (17), which team will line up for the World Cup final against France.

The two teams face each other this Sunday (18), at the Lusail stadium, at 4 pm (Brasília time).

“In a little while we’ll train and you’ll see. If you can’t see it, someone will tell you”, he joked, referring to the leaks of information about what happens behind the scenes of the Argentine national team.

During training, held at Qatar University, the team’s HQ in Doha, the coach tested two formations. The main uncertainty is regarding the presence of Ángel Di María among the starters. But the attacking midfielder, who suffered muscle overload and has been an option on the bench, is not 100%.

One of Scaloni’s main concerns is how to contain Mbappé’s speed and prevent the ball from reaching him on French counterattacks. It was the move that eliminated Argentina when the two teams faced each other in the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Scaloni started the activity with the scheme with three defenders: Emiliano Martínez; Cristian Romero, Otamendi and Lisandro Martínez; Molina, De Paul, Enzo Fernández, MacAllister and Acuña; Lionel Messi and Julian Álvarez.

In the second half of the activity, Scaloni put Di María in place of Lisandro Martínez, changing from the 3-5-2 (or 5-3-2 without the ball) to a 4-3-3.
