Gareth Southgate will remain in charge of England even after the elimination in the quarterfinals of the World Cup for France, according to an announcement by the English Federation (FA) this Sunday (18).

After the disappointment of being ‘almost’ in a difficult match against the Blues, the English coach left his future open after the final whistle.

“We need a little time for everyone to make good decisions,” he said.

This Sunday, FA President Mark Bullingham published a tweet confirming the stay of the coach who has a contract until December 2024.

Southgate “will lead our Euro 2024 campaign… Gareth and (his assistant) Steve Holland have always had our support and now our Euro preparations begin,” Bullingham announced.

Named after Euro 2016, Southgate managed to take the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2021, in which they were runners-up losing to Italy on penalties.

Without winning the world title since 1966, the English start the qualifying phase for the European tournament on March 23 next year against Italy. They will also face Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta in Group C of the competition.
