Opinion – Walter Casagrande Jr.: This Christmas, priority should be given to those who are hungry

by

We are facing Christmas and I wonder what the Brazilian people who are part of those 35 million who are in absolute poverty think of everything they see and hear.

In fact, before they think about it, they wish they could feed themselves together with their family members.

It’s people who suffer a lot, people who work hard to get anything and be able to take it home. Arriving with empty hands and looking at the table, without having anything to eat, must be desperate.

These people do their best, and it’s not so they can enjoy a “gold-plated barbecue”, as the five-time champion Ronaldo Fenômeno thinks, but rather to have at least a piece of meat, a bun, rice, beans to feel like they belong to the society – which is cruel and perverse.

Christmas is here, and what will Santa Claus have in his red bag to give these suffering people?

If I had some magical power, I would bring dignity, recognition, opportunities, employment, a home, minimal hygiene.

It would bring a government that thinks first of all who really needs it.

These businessmen who spent and continue to spend millions to encourage a coup, who financed motorcycles and collaborated with the hate cabinet machine, will they now help the poor with the same commitment?

Mr. Luciano Hang, from Havan, what will you do?

Will Mr. Coco Bambu do something for those who don’t have food or Christmas?

I hope they do something truly important for society.

Is Senator Damares worried about the children of Ilha de Marajó that she has involved in a macabre tale and that, until now, has not proved anything she said?

Senator Mourão, in addition to encouraging the coup, are you thinking of something useful and valuable for people in need this Christmas?

And will Jair Bolsonaro, still president, remain silent, only putting cronies into the government and, as always, not even worrying about those who are hungry because of his incompetence and evil?

Where are all Bolsonarist leaders?

Will there be panettone on the doors of the barracks?

Brazilian clubs and players could get organized and do something like Manchester City, which took Haaland and Mahrez to visit the children’s area of a city hospital. Love, welcome, empathy and affection, often and in some places, are more important than money.

In 2023, a new government will begin that, I hope, will really think of all Brazilians. But the priority, let’s hope, will be for those who are in full poverty.

Will football stop being selfish and ostentatious, to use its important voices in favor of the fight against prejudice?

There are so many questions, but easy answers.

It’s just “yes” or “no”!

Yes, we will be a united country to put ourselves in the other’s shoes and have empathy and solidarity, but with attitude.

No, I’m going to want to disrupt this government because I’m selfish, perverse, and the “myth” lost the elections, so screw the poor people.

Football is within world society and there is no “football universe”.

Therefore, I hope that clubs, players, federations and confederations understand that the world needs good idols.

We have to put an end to ostentatious idols full of fads. It is necessary to place oneself with relevance within society and not just watch the destruction from a cabin, as they have done in the last four years.

Brazil needs to recover society’s principles and values, and obviously, sport can and should help in this difficult process.

Football, release your voice once and for all.
