The new Santos shield was released by the team this Tuesday (27) with a crown in honor of Pelé, 82, above the badge. The symbol was positioned between the stars referring to the 1962 and 1963 world titles, won by the club in the golden years of the King of Football, and will be used on the uniforms in 2023.
The honor was proposed in Santos’ new statute, approved in November of this year. According to article 103 of the document, the club will start to use a crown over the stars of the world titles in all its shirts, “in permanent homage to Edson Arantes do Nascimento, King Pelé”.
The change applies to the women’s and men’s teams, which will use the new coat of arms in professional and amateur football games, in addition to futsal.
Peixe released the photos during the media day of the under-20 team and shared them on social networks. The team will debut the uniforms in their first match for the Copinha, against São Raimundo-RR, to be held on January 4, 2023, in Santo André.
Pelé has been hospitalized at the Albert Einstein hospital, in São Paulo, since November 29, when he arrived to undergo a reassessment of the chemotherapy treatment against colon cancer. He also had a respiratory infection.
Since the 3rd, as revealed by Sheet, Pelé no longer responds to chemotherapy treatments and is in exclusive palliative care. This means that chemotherapy has been suspended and he continues to receive comfort measures, to relieve pain and shortness of breath, for example, without being subjected to invasive therapies.
Wednesday’s medical bulletin (21), the last released by the hospital, pointed out that his state of health worsened. According to the text, the former player needs care related to kidney and heart dysfunction.
Over the weekend, the King of Football’s family arrived at the hospital to spend Christmas with him. Children have been posting photos on social networks that show family members together. Until the beginning of the afternoon of this Tuesday (27), there were no new updates on Pelé’s health status.
